Monique (interviewer): So, listeners and viewer, today i am joined by Maria Celi, who has grown up in the Cabramatta area, and has witnessed it change over the years. Mrs. Celi, will be answering a few questions of mine, about how Cabramatta has changed. We will be discussing the positive and negative impacts within this particular community. Good morning, Maria, nice to be speaking with you.
Maria Celi (interviewee): Good morning Monique is lovely to be speaking with you.
Monique (interviewer): Let's get started! Do you believe Cabramatta has changed considerably over time?
Maria Celi (interviewee): Yes, yes i do.
Monique (interviewer): Do you believe there are many negative impacts of within cabramatta?
Maria Celi (interviewee): Well, for starters Cabramatta is way over populated. There are just so many people crammed into the smallest space. It can be overwhelming at times. Also, with the provision of public transport, such as trains, crime has been increased with...
Monique (interviewer): Sorry to interupt, can you explain how the provision of trains have increased crime in this area?
Maria Celi (interviewee): Certainly, well with many people selling drugs, scores of brutal bashing's and a rise of under aged and excessive drinking issues, are all occurring in this community due to the railway installment and development.
Monique (interviewer): Are there any more negative impacts you can think of?
Maria Celi (interviewee): Just one other, hygiene. Cabramatta has a high lack of hygiene. This also ties in with overpopulation. The streets and stores are maintained poorly. Being that, certain restaurants are not safe to eat in. Due to um, increased crime in Cabramatta, walls, roofs, and floors are overlapped in graffiti. It is absolutely appalling.
Monique (interviewer): Well, with all those negatives, there mustn't leave room for positive impacts?
Maria Celi (interviewee): Well, on the contrary there are many positive impacts that come with such a diverse changing community.
Monique (interviewer): Would you mind sharing?
Maria Celi (interviewee): Of course not! Well, there is multiculturalism. Cabramatta is such a diverse community. Change has brought all different types of food and spices that are now used in everyday cooking, such as leek and coriander. With provisions of unique architecture, such as temples. Cabramatta's buildings and structures are very unique and life like. Speaking of temples, religion is very miscellaneous in Cabramatta. Buddhism, Hindu and Orthodox, are the popular religions that are practiced. This gives Cabramatta a very unique culture of celebrations and festivals. Such as, Chinese new year and moon festivals.
Monique (interviewer): Is there anything you would change about Cabramatta?
Maria Celi (interviewee): Hmm... let me think about that for a moment
Monique (interviewer): Of course
Maria Celi (interviewee): Well, i would definitely change the lack of hygiene, there should be more regulations in the way they store and cook the food that is displayed and sold, so that it is safe to eat!
Monique (interviewer): That's understandable. Well, that's all we have time for today. Thank you Maria for being here and answering my questions today.
